Monday is a day of rest.

Where to begin today? It has been a very busy last few weeks. Between work and preparing for Rory's first dog shows there hasn't been a lot of time left for my stitching and blog reading. But now Rory's first show is behind us. My deadline is over at work. So now I can now get back to my stitching and other more important things. It is Monday and time to catch my breath and get ready for the next round of madness.

Saturday was a perfect fall day. Temps in the 60s, sunshine and a light breeze. 12:45 PM was showtime for Rory's debut. He stacked (stood for exam by the judge) up beautifully. I'm thinking this is a good start. Then it was time to gait around the ring. But not Rory. He decided to bounce and jump like a rabbit. He still got his ribbon but ........... Sunday was pouring rain all morning. So we arrived at the show early so we could practice a little and he could dry off before ring time. This time he did beautifully. No points but then his competition was a 3 yr old adult. He came close and the judge had some good things to say. I was pleased with both Rory's performance and the judges remarks.

Now let's see how he does next weekend. Yup, we have three shows next weekend. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. AND all three are Irish Setter specialties. Which means Rory will have a bit more competition. He will also get to see his breeder and one of his sisters who is also entered in the show. These shows are in Connecticut so the drive will be a little longer since I am in New York (Long Island). And poor Rory hates riding in the car. Poor baby tends to get car sick more often than not. (He did on Saturday coming home from the show.) Short trips seem to be okay but this is 3 hour ride. So if anyone knows of any tricks to help a carsick pup I would love to hear about them.

Stitching? Did someone say stitching?

I haven't gotten much done this past week. Too much stress or nerves (mine!) or something. I did manage a little more progress on the Sampler Lady. Not enough to take a photo of. And no progress on my BBD piece. But I do have one photo to show. I participated in an exchange the Little House Needleworks exchange blog. And this is what I stitched for my partner, Denise. I finished it as a flatfold and love how it turned out.
I would like to thank all those who left comments for me. I truly appreciate them. Each and every one. Also, thank you to those who rooted for Rory and me. Keep those good thoughts coming since he has a busy weekend coming up. Now I'm off to try and catch up on email and blog post. Well, I'll try anyway.

Until next time..................
Love and stitches
Kathy
and licks from Rory too

PS. If anyone is near the Tolland County Agricultural Center in Vernon, CT, and wants to see me run in circles this coming weekend stop on by.

Yay, Rory!

That's too bad about his motion sickness; perhaps he'll grow out of it? Maybe he's just THAT EXCITED to be able to ride in the car.

Congrats to Rory for doing so well. I thought of you this past weekend when I saw that there was a dog show here at the county fairgrounds. Your stitching looks great!

Congrats to Rory. Can Rory see out of the window while riding in the car? The way my vet explained it sometimes they get car sick if they can't see out. My little one has outgrown it thankfully. Also good luck this weekend.

And thank you for the kind comments on my blog

Our cat gets car sick, so the vet prescribed valium for him. A whole tablet is too much, so we usually end up giving him 1/4 to 1/2 a tablet depending on how long we're in the car. It's enough to relax him so he doesn't get sick, and he's back to his usual self fairly quickly. We've also used dye-free children's benedryl, but the valium works better.

If it won't interfere with dog show regulations, talk to your vet about getting some sort of medication for the dog, then test it out at home first to see if there are any side effects. Always start with the smallest possible dose.

You can also try the pet store for several different calming remedies if you want to go that route instead.

Well for Rory's first show I should say thats good. My husband has a friend whose wife showes Golden Retrievers and her pup acted up in the ring the first time as well. I suppose it could be puppy nerves. LOL. I'm sure after a few shows Rory will be a seaonsed shower.

Congrats to Rory on his first show. He can only get better. Had a friend with a carsick dog, she just sedated the pup a little and all was good, guess you have to see the vet now. Good luck next weekends shows.

Hey Kathy, congrats to both you and Rory, know how nerve racking that can be with a new dog, and hey it is hard for a youngster to compete against a mature dog.

Good luck next weekend, Specialities are always so much fun!

Car sickness, always a hard one, ginger is supposed to calm the stomach and can be an alternative to medication, which can as I'm sure you know make a dog drowsy. Also ginger beer when you get there. We had a goat, yes a goat who hated to travel, and would always come out of the trailer 'flat' and more than a little peeved, we always gave her ginger beer and she pepped right up.

Oh the stitching looks great
