A mid week update

Rory and I are back from our travels. It was a really nice weekend. I had a wonderful visit with my brother, sister-in-law and niece. I only have a few photos and as soon as my brother sends me the ones on his camera I can post those.

The two dog shows went well. And it was so nice having family come watch. Rory did just as I thought he would. Basically second place. But that's okay. He behaved and was such a good boy and that was what I wanted. He will always be number one to me no matter what any judge says.

Actually Rory behaved fabulously all weekend. For his first visit to someone elses home he was much better behaved than I expected. Let me tell you he can be full of surprises. Like the one he gave me Thursday evening while I was getting everything packed in anticipation of Friday mornings departure.

I had let him out around 7 PM for a quick potty trip outside. it was only 15 degrees and windy. In other words COLD!! After a few minutes I went to check on him. Hmmmmmmmmm. I don't see him and he isn't coming. Okay. So I call again and he finally comes where I can see him. He has something in his mouth. A toy? No, he is close enough that I can see he has a squirrel in his mouth. And it isn't a fake one. YUCK!!!

I spent the next 25 minutes or so chasing him, calling him, cajoling, begging pleading with him. All to no avail. I then went back in the house and grabbed some food to try. I threw chunks of warm french bread pizza that I had made for my dinner at him. That worked. So I quick grab the carcass. Not a pretty sight. It must have been left by the neighborhood feral cats since it, well, wasn't whole. DOUBLE YUCK! It probably took me another hour just to warm up and stop shivering from revulsion and cold. Just another day in the life of Kathy and Rory.

As for stitching I have been getting some done. The two exchanges are finished and I have two more to do. So no photos of those yet. I have made some progress on Simply Live. This photo is awful. Sorry I tried about 6 times to get a decent one but I hope you get the idea.

And just to keep on the stitching topic I took a photo of one of my older pieces. This is one of my earlier ones. It is hanging on my brother and sis-in-law's wall. See the date? 1991.

Until next time................

Love and stitches
Kathy
and licks from Rory too

PS. The photos with the white background were taken at our local Petco. Didn't they turn out fabulous?

Rory is such a handsome boy! Glad he behaved so well for you (except for the squirrel - lol!) - his photos are all gorgeous!
Nice progress on your WIP. Sometimes the photo fairies just have fun with us, don't they?

Lovely photos of Rory, Petco did a great job. I remember when my Dad's Pomeranian brought a dead mouse (thanks I'm sure to my cat) into the house YUCK is right !

Your WIP looks nice, Kathy.

I felt your revulsion as I read the squirrel story. I'm with you... Yuck, and double Yuck!

I found with Celeste that I can't chase her because she thinks it's a game and she'll run and run and run. Silly dogs!

both your dog & your stitching are beautiful!!!

do you remember who made the piece that you did in 1991?

What a gross story. Our dog caught a squirrel once and it was so gross trying to get it away from her so I know how you feel, of course it was not 15 degrees either. LOL Glad he behaved at the dog show.

Beautiful WIP, and great (old) finish. And of course gorgeous pics of Rory. Congrats on him coming out second place. I had to giggle at the story with the squirrel. Thank god he preferred your pizza bread above the squirrel.

Sorry Kathy but I just HAD to laugh at the tale of Rory and his squirrel! I'm sure you were simply beside yourself as I would be too! I'm just glad you see the humor in it now. And the photos of your boy are awesome!

Those ARE great photos of Rory! He poses so pretty!

And even though he is a show dog the squirrel incident proves he is still a dog! Dogs can be so silly!

Your baby is so beautiful! Now can you blame him for hunting up some extra food and showing it off to you? Yuck - I'm with you!
WIP looks great and your older piece is so pretty!

Rory is so pretty (not right for a male, huh?) But he looks like a model sitting there on the white background! They are just like kids, you want them to behave at someone else's house. Your WIP looks nice and don't know how you get much done with all the dog things you've been doing!

Aren't animals just the best! We found a somewhat um...not whole something under our sofa one day a few years ago - think it was when we just had the cats. Glad you had such a good weekend.

Rory's photos look so nice. Good to hear you had a nice time with family. My friend's little Min Pin just loves...well anything that you could call/make into a carcass. His favorite is catching frogs..and removing their legs for them. lol. not really.

Ah, dogs.

Live simply is looking good.

What a gorgeous dog Rory is! Great photos!

Another beautiful wip you have there, and the older finish is just lovely!

My cousin's dog liked to dig in the field (they lived in the countryside) and catch mice and moles, and then bring them to the yard to show them. I don't think their cats ever did the same :-) My family's summer house is near there and we had quite often dead moles and mice in our yard, too :-)

Oh, Kathy!! He had a squirrel in his mounth?? You're a better fur mama that I am because I would have run in the other direction!! Glad to hear that he behaved while you were away that he did well in the dog show. I will not be at sit and stitch this month. We will be in Florida that week as it is the week the the munchkins are off from school. I was hoping to go to the Superbowl sale at the shop this weekend, but it looks like the snow has other plans!

Hello Kathy,

Rory is beautiful! I had an Irish Setter when I was in my early twenties. He had a very original name....Red:0)He was fond of groundhogs!! But he was a sweetheart. Love the piece that you're working on and the one that you did in 91 really looks nice too.

Rory is very handsome! Congratulations to you both. Love your Quaker WIP and your framed Irish prayer.

Thanks for your prayers for my friend. I really appreciate it. She cannot be helped other than pain control and we hope she will have many more quilt days with us all.

Hugs from Holland ~

Love the colors in your WIP. The pics of Rory are fantastic. Yucky about the squirrel. I love squirrels, but only when they have a heartbeat, lol!

Sounds like you and Rory had a great time at the dog show, he is a handsome dog. The squirrel thing are you laughing about it yet? Our setter Tucker loves squirrels, but so far he has not caught one. It has been close. My husband is always saying hasn't anyone told him that he is a bird dog????
Your stitching looks great!

UGH! Dead things make awful gifts but how can you be mad at that sweet face. Great photos and how wonderful to have your family watch your baby do his thing.
